The Devotion
These words were written by the Holy Spirit through King David, who knew what it was like to go through intense stress. Centuries later, Jesus said the same words to His Father from the cross (Luke 23:46). The first martyr, Stephen, also quoted this verse as he was stoned to death (Acts 7:59).
We all have times of stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. One day, we will all face death. For some people, death is the greatest uncertainty of all, but for followers of Jesus, we can commit everything we have, even our very lives, into God's hand.
If Jesus needed to surrender fully to the Father's will and trust in Him, how much more should we depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us, the blood of Jesus to cover us, and the Father's Sovereign hand to keep us through every day of life, our day of death, and safely to the day that will never end - eternal life in His presence.
"Lord, help me trust You. Your hand is the highest and strongest power in heaven and on earth. Thank you for your hands that knit me in my mother's womb (Ps. 139), that your hands stretched out on the cross to buy me eternal life, and that your hand guides every moment of my life. I trust you to guide me today, no matter what happens. In Jesus' name. Amen."
