The Devotion
Did you hear about one of the recent records verified by the Guinness Book of World Records? Last week, the Fred Harlow family from Iowa set a record for five generations in their family having family members with the same birthday: September 14. Harlow said "You know, when you have children yeah, they're a gift, this is a very unique gift . . . We always thought it was pretty cool, but . . . I never thought much of it as far as (a) record holder. Just kind of figured everything happened for a reason."
The Bible talks a lot about generations and genealogies. There's a whole book about them, and then there's Jesus' genealogy, which shows His connection to other people in God's big story of grace. In Psalm 145, the Bible tells us to tell of God's works to the next generation. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul told Timothy to disciple others like Paul had discipled him. Time and time again, the pattern is for one generation to share the faith with the next generation.
You may not be a parent, but if you've been saved, you are a part of God's family. There are other people who need to know what God has done in your life and how they can receive the glorious grace of Jesus. You may not all share the same birthday like the Harlow family, but who can you pass the faith along to today? Who is the next generation you can disciple and reach?
Lord, thank You for your grace in my life. Thank You for Your mercy and Your mighty acts. Help me tell other people about Who You are and what You've done for me. I love you, Lord! I serve you today. In Jesus' name, Amen!
