“Fix these words of mine in your hearts . . . tie them as symbols on your hands” Deuteronomy 11:18

Real Prayer

Today's Verse

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16 · ESV

The Devotion

Author Ed Cole says "Prayer . . . was made for loving and giving, not lusting and getting" and "The absence of prayer is testimony to your ability; the presence of prayer is testimony to God's ability." These statements are so true! Often times, we pray for our needs and forget the heart of prayer: intimacy with God. We go straight to the "doing" instead of the "being." By the blood of the cross, we have direct access to our loving Heavenly Father. True prayer begins with loving and giving Him praise, because He is able and He is worthy! We confess our sin and unworthiness and thank Him for all He has done. Then, we can turn to the needs in our lives and the needs of others.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, help me see prayer as a privilege. Help me pray throughout the day, but also spend quiet moments in Your presence... enjoying your love and thanking you for all you've given me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
