The Devotion
Let's continue studying John chapter-by-chapter. If you have time, read John 2 today... and if you missed yesterday, you can click to go back at the top. The title of today's devo was just to grab your attention.
The miracle of turning water into wine is Jesus' first public display of His deity. The miracles in John are called signs (they are seven major signs).
In our daily lives, signs point us in a certain direction and give us information we need on the journey (except for roundabouts - because the signs around them do me no good at all!).
Jesus' signs were to point to the Father, prove that He Himself was God, and to show people the Way to God. That's why verse 23 says "many believed in His name" because of His miracles.
John 1:11 says Jesus' disciples believed in Him because they saw the miracle. Remember, a disciple is a follower of Jesus (a person who learns how to live life from Jesus). The first disciples had a lot ahead of them on their journey with Jesus (like watching Jesus heal the sick, raise the dead, and give sight to the blind).
But their daily discipleship began with belief in Jesus. Every step in spiritual growth continued from that first step. Have you taken the first step of turning from your sin and trusting in Jesus? If you have, what's your "next step" in following Jesus of Nazareth today?
Lord, show me your "next step" as I follow Jesus today. It may be a kind word, a sacrificial act, or giving up my time to listen to what someone else is going through. Help me realize Jesus' presence in my life and respond to each situation in the way You would respond. Thank you for being the Lord of my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
