The Devotion
Did you know there is a place in Venezuela where it storms for 300 days every year? Near Lake Maracaibo, lightning called "Catatumbo" strikes twenty-eight times a minute on average. Sometimes the lightning bolts number three-thousand six hundred per hour (that is, one per second)... and the lightning storm can be seen from over 250 miles away!
Many times, our lives feel like a never-ending storm. Our relationships, finances, jobs, and families all come with their own challenges. Sometimes the storm even comes in our own minds, and it feels like our thoughts spiral out of control. Put all of these together, and it can feel like life is unbearable. The good news is that Jesus is Lord of the storm. The wind and waves still know His name. He came to bring us peace, joy, and an abundant life. Why not call on His name today and choose to let Him guide you through whatever storm you're facing?
Lord Jesus, thank you that you are God over everything - including my life. Forgive me when I try to find my own way out of the storm. Teach me to trust You to guide me, strengthen me, and make me more like You through the challenges and circumstances I face today. By doing so, I want to bring You glory and point other people to You. Thank you for always being there and thank you for loving me - even to the point of death on the cross. Help me take up mine and follow you today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
