God’s Gift of Limits
Today's Verse
28Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”Matthew 11:28–30 · BSB
The Devotion
Do you feel overloaded? We have more information than ever before, but less wisdom than ever before. We have more convenience than ever before, but less time than ever before. God, in His grace, lets us hit our limits so we realize that we are not Him and that we need Him.
Instead of doing it all, having it all, and being it all, we need to set boundaries for ourselves and others. It seems like everyone and everything in this world is in the business of wanting your time or your money. We have to make wise, discerning choices as followers of Jesus with our time, talents, and treasure.
God will give us the wisdom, and he also gives us an amazing gift: the gift of limits. It's a gift that says There is a God; I am not God, and I need him. It brings me closer to Him when I realize I can't do it all. I can't have it all. I can't cram it all into the time he's given me. What do you need to say no to today so that you can say yes to God's best?
Lord, help me embrace the gift of limits by resting in You. Help me work hard, spend wisely, invest my time, and redeem it for Your kingdom. But at the end of the day, help me make decisions with my limited resources that reflect Your unlimited power, love, patience, and grace toward me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
