Today's Verse
1Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose.3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.5Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:6Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness.8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross.9Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names,10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Philippians 2:1-11 · BSB
The Devotion
My wife and I recently walked through an estate sale on a rare morning without our kids. I didn’t know the couple who had passed away, but as I walked through their home, their possessions gave me clues to the lives they lived.
I found myself in a little bedroom looking at a wall. On it was a framed Ph.D. diploma earned by the husband years earlier. It was on sale for just a few dollars.
I wondered how much time, energy, and effort he put into that degree. A Ph.D. is undoubtedly an amazing accomplishment, and I'm all for education, but in the end, the piece of paper ended up for sale at a bargain price.
At the end of our lives, our positions, degrees, awards, and trophies won’t really matter. But what will matter is the service we’ve done in God’s name for His kingdom.
True leadership isn’t found in a title, but in a willingness to serve. When we help others and set them up for success, we live out the kind of leadership Jesus talked about.
Lord, help me serve others in Jesus' name today. Help me love others in Jesus' name today. Show me the path of true success, which is following Jesus with every decision, thought, choice, attitude, and action. Thank you for loving me and serving me first. In Jesus' name, Amen.
