Where is your confidence?
Today's Verse
18Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.20But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.21I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.22Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.23No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.24Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.25And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.26I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.27But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.28And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.29If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.1 John 2:18-29 · ESV
The Devotion
Let's continue in 1 John 2. If you missed a day or two, no problem. You can go back and read.
John is writing to children of God, and in verse 18, he says there are antichrists in the world. Revelation teaches there will be one final antichrist, but the spirit or characteristics of the antichrist are in the world today.
Anyone or anything that denies that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God, the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One, and the Son of God, is operating under the spirit of the antichrist, whether they know it or not.
Not everyone who claims to be a Christian believes that Jesus is the only way, as he plainly taught in John 14:6. There will be a great sifting of true followers of Jesus and those who believe there are many paths to the mountain to God. The spirit of our times is that everyone has their own path of life. You have yours, I have mine, and we're all going up the same mountain to God. The only problem is, if everything is equally true, then nothing is true. For there to be something true, there has to be something false. Jesus is the truth, and He is God who has come down from the mountain to us, because we could never get up the mountain in the first place.
If you've been born again and you know Jesus, you already have an anointing from God. He will lead you and guide you into all truth, just like John says in verse 20, and just like Jesus taught when He promised the Holy Spirit, who would glorify Him and guide us into all truth. Like verse 28 says, we should walk in Jesus, ready for Him to come back, and we should be confident.
Have you been born again? Do you have that confidence, not in yourself but in Christ? If not, He will give it to you today. Click the button at the top of the page. I need Jesus to learn how you can receive the gift of God's Son, Jesus Christ.
Lord, I thank you that in an age of confusion, you are truth. In a world of many ways, you are the only way. I love you, and I praise you, for you are my light and my life. Help me walk in the light today and abide in you. Help me have the confidence and assurance to come boldly to the throne of grace with all of my needs, knowing that I am your child not because of what I've done, but because of what you have done for me. I love you, Lord. Help me be gracious to those who are blinded to the truth, and help me share Jesus with them. In Jesus' name, Amen
